To enhance communication reliability, we are proactively addressing issues identified in our alerting system during the recent weather event. Our goal is to streamline message delivery and ensure every family receives the communications they desire, especially in critical situations.

Understanding Your Alert Preferences in JMC

One area we are optimizing is how contact information and messaging preferences are managed within the JMC system. We found that the options for receiving messages, particularly phone calls and text messages (SMS), can be confusing.

In JMC, under your phone number section, you will see the following options:

JMC Option

Message Type

Purpose

SMS (Text Message)*

Text Message

Enables this phone number to receive all mass text messages (SMS) sent by ACGC, including Emergency/Weather alerts.

Emergency/Weather Related

Automated Phone Call

Enables this phone number to receive an automated phone call for emergency and weather-related announcements.

Student/Lunch Related

Automated Phone Call

Enables this phone number to receive an automated phone call for student or lunch-related announcements.

General School Information

Automated Phone Call

Enables this phone number to receive an automated phone call for general school information.

Key Takeaways:

  • SMS (Text Message) is for text messages, covering a wide range of ACGC subjects, including emergency alerts. Currently, in JMC, this is an all-or-nothing selection.

  • The other three options are specifically for receiving an automated phone call for that particular message category. We will begin utilizing the automated calling feature for mass announcements.

✅ Action Required: Please Verify Your Contact Settings

We ask that you log into JMC and verify that your phone contact information is set up exactly as you prefer.

  1. For Text Messages (SMS):

    • To receive all SMS text messages from ACGC, including Emergency/Weather alerts, ensure the SMS (Text Message)* option is checked.

    • Crucially, verify the phone type is set to either Cell 1 or Cell 2. Numbers set to other types (e.g., "Home") will not receive text messages.

  2. For Automated Phone Calls:

    • If you would like to receive an automated phone call for a specific category (e.g., Emergency/Weather Related), please ensure that specific box is checked.
