🌍 Science Comes Alive with Frosting and Graham Crackers! 🍫🧁

Today in 6th Grade Earth Science, our young scientists dove hands-on into the world of Plate Tectonics — using graham crackers and frosting to explore how our planet moves and shakes! 🌋

Students built edible models of Earth’s crust and mantle, learning how tectonic plates:
🔹 Pull apart to create new crust at divergent boundaries (like mid-ocean ridges),
🔹 Crash together at convergent boundaries, forming mountains, volcanoes, and deep trenches, and
🔹 Slide past each other along transform boundaries, releasing energy as earthquakes — just like California’s famous San Andreas Fault!

Through laughter, learning, and a little frosting on their fingers, students experienced firsthand how the slow movement of Earth’s plates shapes our mountains, oceans, and continents.

🍴 By the end, everyone understood one key lesson — science can be sweet and powerful all at once!

📚✨ A Record-Breaking Read-A-Thon! ✨📚

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible students, parents, and community for making this year’s 5th & 6th Grade Read-A-Thon such a success!

This year, our readers raised a record-breaking $3,577.50 to help offset costs for field trip busing and student incentives throughout the year. 🙌

In just one month, our students logged over 5,000 minutes of reading across 45 active reader accounts! 🤩 Each student who raised funds also earned 15% to spend in the Read-A-Thon Prize Store, picking out some fun rewards for their hard work and dedication. 🎁

We are so proud of our readers for their enthusiasm, commitment, and love of learning — and deeply grateful to our families and community members for your generosity and encouragement. Your support continues to make a lasting difference for our students!

Here’s to another amazing year of reading, learning, and growing together! 💚📖💛
Thank you again from all of us in ACGC 5th & 6th Grade!

Congratulations to Claudia Oyen from Atwater, who is representing ACGC as this year’s Peace Poster winner! Her artwork beautifully captures the theme “Together as One” by showing how people can build peace through kindness, teamwork, and caring for the planet. Claudia’s poster will now advance to the District Contest, where it will compete against entries from communities across Zones 1–8, including Alexandria, Sauk Centre, Elbow Lake, Benson, Montevideo, Renville, Willmar, and many more.

Best of luck to Claudia as she proudly represents ACGC and our local Lions Club at the next level!
